The inaugural Auckland Master Plumbers' Melbourne Cup Day event was held last Tuesday, and went off without a hitch with no-one pulling up lame or injuring themselves, we're very pleased to report.
The day shone brightly, and provided the perfect opportunity for plumbers, their staff and wives, merchants and sponsors alike to network and spend time relaxing whilst enjoying the hospitality of Ellerslie Event Centre's Champagne Lawn marquee package, which included a buffet lunch, afternoon tea, and all-day beverage service.
Our MC kept guests up to speed on the day's races, ran sweepstakes for the major event, and also facilitated Lucky Loser's and Punters' Podium draws... so you didn't need to be a regular at the TAB to be in with a chance to take home some winnings!
Among many others, the team at Sanders Plumbing Ltd were present in all their finery, and had this to say about their day:
"We wanted to say a big thank you from Sanders Plumbing Ltd to Auckland Master Plumbers and all the Sponsors who made the Melbourne Cup Event a great day. It was fabulous networking with our suppliers and other plumbing businesses that were there. A great day had by all. Thought you might like a photo of the team, we all scrubbed up well for the occasion!"
And from Peter Moloney, one of our guests from Auckland Council: "On behalf of Steven Rose and myself I would like to extend our deep thanks and appreciation for including Auckland Council as your guests for this year, your inaugural appearance as an organisation, at the Ellerslie Melbourne Cup Day.
We thought the day was a great success and a credit to your members, the hospitality was first class and it was a fun way to include a little bit of networking as well. It was especially good to see a number of business owners electing to bring their crew along for the day as a way of thanking them for their contributions and hard work during the year as well.
Well done, though I think my horse is still running!"
Finally, we'd like to extend a big thank you to all our sponsors on the day: the tables looked spectacular, with flowers sponsored by Marley; bottles of Moët & Chandon were supplied by Plumbing World as prizes for best-dressed woman and man; shelter from the sun was available beneath umbrellas provided by Rinnai; racing notes were written with complimentary pens from GWA; and goodie bags were donated by MICO.
